The Colombo Stars will play Kandy Warriors in the 15th league fixture of the Lanka Premier League 2021 at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium on December 14. It will be a bottom table clash as the Warriors continue to reel at the last spot, having lost four of their five matches so far, while the Stars are not far ahead, placed fourth with just two wins in as many games.
The Warriors come after losing a rain-curtailed encounter to Jaffna Kings by seven wickets, when they had set their opponents 95 for the win on the back of Charith Asalanka’s 44 off 34. The Kings, who were asked to chase the runs in 10 overs, managed to do so in 8.2 and have nearly pushed Angelo Perera and Co. out of the playoffs contention.
The Stars, on the other hand, broke a rut of losses by winning their previous fixture by 41 runs against the Galle Gladiators. Angelo Mathews starred with his 57-ball 73 that laid the foundation of their 162/7 before the bowlers inflicted a collapse to wrap the Gladiators for 121 in 16.5 overs, with Naveen ul Haq and Seekugge Prasanna scalping five wickets amongst them. With quite a few games being affected by rain, the choice at the toss has become tricky as chasing gives an opportunity to the teams to better understand the situation with DLS coming into play, although the chasing team have lost more games in this edition.
Charith Asalanka is the top-scorer for the Warriors, with 118 runs at a strike rate of 137.20. Seekkkuge Prasanna is the second leading wicket-taker of the tournament, with nine wickets in five games thus far at an economy rate of 5.73. So, our match verdict of prediction is Colombo Stars has more chances to win the match.
