Mumbai Indians’ Key Bowler Received A Gift From MS Dhoni

Kumar Kartikeya was one of Mumbai Indians’ key bowlers during their IPL 2022 encounter against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 12. His figures of 2/22 played a pivotal role in restricting the defending champions to a paltry 97. While Kartikeya has turned out to be one of the rising stars this season, he also got a golden opportunity to flaunt his prized possession.

The treasured gift is nothing but a signed match ball by none other than the legendary MS Dhoni. The two-time World Cup-winning captain is mostly seen interacting with the youngsters after a particular IPL match and this time, it was Kumar’s turn to get some valuable piece of advice from inarguably the sharpest cricketing mind and it indeed turned out to be a memorable moment for the left-arm spinner. In a video posted by the Mumbai Indians on their official Twitter handle, the MI players can be seen walking back to the dressing room after the contest and that is when Kumar Kartikeya is spotted with a ball in hand. When asked about the same he mentioned that it was a signed match ball from Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni was the lone warrior for Chennai as they suffered an awkward batting collapse after losing the toss and being asked to bat first by MI captain Rohit Sharma. The biggest turning point for them was obviously in-form Devon Conway’s wicket in the very first over. Daniel Sams had got him out lbw but the ball had pitched in the middle and was seemingly missing his leg stump. Unfortunately for him, he could not take the DRS due to power failure at the venue, and hence the New Zealander had to go back for a golden duck. Dhoni scored an impressive 36* from 33 balls before a needless run-out ended CSK’s innings with still four overs to go. Even though Mumbai struggled, they eventually got the job done by five wickets, and in the process ended the Yellow Army’s title defense.
