When asked about the Pakistani team for the T20 World Cup in 2022, former Pakistani captain Salman Butt had harsh words for the selectors. One of the main problems with Pakistan’s batting order has been their middle order, which has struggled to perform regularly. Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, and Asif Ali, as well as their successors Haider Ali and Mohammad Haris, have all continuously failed to deliver results.

To compound their problems, Pakistan just lost their home series against England after losing to Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2022 final. Despite the lacklustre showings in the current New Zealand Tri-Series, the Pakistan management has confidence in the middle order to deliver. Salman responded angrily to a journalist, expressing his displeasure with the team selections and reserves for the T20 World Cup in 2022. Butt remarked on Mohammad Haris’ T20I performance and felt that having Haris travel as a second wicketkeeper-batter in reserve with Fakhar Zaman was not the smartest move.

“Your second wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris is in traveling reserves. Fakhar Zaman is also in reserves, and he is not in form as well. Dahani is also in reserves. You picked Haris. He played five to six matches in National T20… he doesn’t even have a score of 15. He dropped three catches in one match,” Butt said. The chat’s host jokingly remarked that the selectors are dozing off, and Butt’s scathing retort to that has gone viral. “A sleeping person can wake up. Ye toh behosh hain (they are unconscious),” Butt replied to the journalist.
