Kane Williamson, the captain of New Zealand, and paceman Trent Boult are reportedly not expected to play in the opening on November 18 at home white-ball series against India. A three-match Twenty20 International series involving both sides will be followed by an equal number of One Day Internationals.

Williamson and Boult may be given a break after competing in the T20 World Cup 2022, which is why they are not available for the entirety of the bilateral series. The Kiwis had a standout T20 World Cup run, however they were eliminated from the competition after losing to Pakistan by seven wickets in the semifinals. Kane Williamson and Trent Boult might be rested from the upcoming T20I or ODI series against India, according to reports that New Zealand Cricket will announce two different squads for the limited-overs matchup.

Although Captain Williamson did manage to score 46 against Pakistan in the semifinal, it was entirely a cautious batting approach from him that mostly saw him rotate striking as the Black Caps lost wickets at the other end. Williamson’s performances in the T20 World Cup were not particularly impressive. Trent Boult, on the other hand, chose not to sign the New Zealand central contract in order to keep all of his options open for taking part in the international franchise leagues.

All-rounder Colin de Grandhomme announced his retirement from international cricket, and James Neesham declined the central contract to play franchise cricket, dealing New Zealand Cricket a few more blows. Boult is prepared to play in his first Big Bash League (BBL) game after signing a contract with the Melbourne Stars for the 2022–23 season. The left-arm pacer was actually selected in the first round of the BBL overseas draught along with players like Shadab Khan, the vice-captain of Pakistan, and Andre Russell, a power hitter from the Caribbean.
