Wasim Jaffer, a former Indian cricketer, was hired by the Punjab Kings on Wednesday to serve as their batting coach in front of the 2019 Indian Premier League season. Jaffer was formerly a member of the franchise and is currently travelling with the Bangladesh U-19 team to Pakistan. After Jaffer was hired as the batting coach of Punjab Kings, former England captain Michael Vaughan made fun of him on Twitter.
“Someone who got out to me is a batting coach,” Vaughan retweeted a post. Vaughan was referring to the 2002 Lord’s Test, which was when he had removed Jaffer, for context. The online joking between Jaffer and Vaughan is legendary. They frequently make fun of one another on Twitter and other social media sites.
Jaffer served as the Punjab Kings’ batting coach from 2019 to 2021, but he left his position prior to the 2022 auction. Punjab Kings hired Mark Wood, a coach who specialises in power hitting, last year. However, he will again be back in the Punjab dugout for the upcoming season. “Jiska tha besabri se intezaar (The one you had been waiting for), introducing our Batting Coach, Wasim Jaffer!,” Punjab Kings tweeted from their official handle.
In addition, Punjab hired former South African pacer Charl Langeveldt as the head of the bowling unit, and former Australia wicketkeeper-batsman Brad Haddin as the assistant coach. The IPL team announced their retained roster on November 15 and then presented the updated coaching staff, lead by Trevor Bayliss.
