Thomas Delaney, a midfielder for Denmark, has been ruled out of the World Cup after hurting his knee during his team’s first-round match against Tunisia. “We’ll miss him, both on and off the pitch,” said coach Kasper Hjulmand in a statement.
“Our other players are ready and we have a strong squad for the coming matches.” Delaney will be absent from Denmark’s remaining Group D games against the world champions France and Australia because he plays club football for Sevilla in Spain. In their opening FIFA World Cup game against Tunisia, Denmark had ended in a scoreless draw.
