When he was captain of the Indian squad, Sachin Tendulkar had a fairly tense conversation with one of his former colleagues.

Former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar of Team India is widely recognized as one of the best batters in game history. Tendulkar has the most runs scored in ODIs and Test matches as well as the most international centuries to his credit (100). The “master blaster,” as he is affectionately known for his batting prowess, has twice served as India’s interim leader. Tendulkar has now told a story of an incident that happened while he was captain during a tour of Australia, despite the fact that his leadership abilities weren’t as successful as his hitting.

In a practice match during the Australian trip, a young teammate “carried away” while fielding, and Tendulkar had to keep him in position. The former India star further disclosed that he “placed his arms around his shoulder” to issue a strong warning to his colleague.

“I was the captain of the team and we are on a tour of Australia. One of the junior players — it was his first tour — was carried away, he was playing around with the crowd, and where it was single, he ended up giving away two runs. So, I calmly called him after the over, and put my arm around him. No one else knew what I was telling him but he knew that he cannot afford to do that again. Because I said, ‘if you do this again, I will send you back home. You will not go back to the hotel, you will be back in India’,” Tendulkar revealed in an event conducted by Infosys.

“Nothing is compromised when you play for India. This is a huge honor. There are millions of people aspiring to be in your spot. Don’t take it for granted,” the former India cricketer further said. In 25 Tests as India’s captain, Tendulkar only guided his team to four victories, nine defeats, and 12 draws. Under Tendulkar’s leadership, India had a dismal victory percentage of 31 in ODIs (73 matches).
