Yuzvendra Chahal should play local cricket, according to former India selector Sunil Joshi, to rediscover his form.

Yuzvendra Chahal, an Indian spinner, surpassed all previous wicket-takers during Sunday’s second T20I match against New Zealand. Chahal grabbed one wicket throughout the game, bringing his total to 91, surpassing Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s total of 90 wickets. The seasoned spinner’s performance, meanwhile, has not been up to par for a while. In his three T20 International matches this year, Chahal has only taken four wickets. In addition to this, he was only able to record three dismissals in three ODIs. Former India selector Sunil Joshi advised the Rohit Sharma-led team to play local cricket for the 32-year-old spinner to restore his form as they prepared for the 2018 ODI World Cup.

“Over a period any bowler will go through that phase. Probably Chahal is in that phase. Someone like Chahal, who is not able to get game time in the middle, probably should request the team management to go and play domestic cricket. Match time is very important for him to get back into form. That should be the ideal preparation for Chahal,” said Sunil on ESPNCricinfo.

Sunil dropped Chahal from his 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup and stated, “No. Jadeja will be in my squad. If he is not in a good rhythm, you have a backup in Axar. Then probably I would look at Washy (Washington Sundar) or Ravi Bishnoi if I have to have one more leg spinner because Bishnoi is more consistent and has a quicker arm action and he’s a better fielder than Chahal.”
