Unquestionably, Shaheen Afridi is one of Pakistan cricket’s top pacers in the current generation. The 22-year-old cricketer, who made his international debut in 2018, has played 25 Test matches and taken 99 wickets, including four five-wicket hauls. Shaheen has been sidelined due to a knee injury that prevented him from competing in the Asia Cup 2022. Shaheen is regarded as the “backbone” of Pakistan’s pace unit. Later, he returned to the 2022 T20 World Cup, however, he suffered another knee injury during the summit match. The speedster is prepared to play in the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League after months of recovery following surgery (PSL).

Lahore Qalandars, who take on Multan Sultans in the first game of the competition, will be led by Shaheen. Shaheen recently opened out about his time in treatment, when he was on the verge of quitting cricket but managed to stay inspired by watching old recordings of himself. “There were times when I wanted to give up. I was working on only one muscle and it was not improving. Often during the rehabilitation sessions, I used to say to myself ‘this is enough, I cannot do this anymore. But then I used to watch my bowling on YouTube and see how well I had done and that motivated me and I told myself ‘to push a little more’ … It is frustrating for a fast bowler to miss cricket because of an injury,” said Shaheen on YouTube.
