The Sunrisers Eastern Cape purchased Temba Bavuma, who remained unsold during the SA20 auctions, for the rest of the season. The captain of the Johannesburg Super Kings, Faf du Plessis, has scored the most runs thus far in the SA20’s debut season. In nine innings, he has allowed 369* runs at an average of 46.12 and a strikeout rate of around 150. He was a key contributor to the team’s victory in the competition.
The current South Africa captain Temba Bavuma, who was just signed by Sunrisers Eastern Cape, received some kind comments from the previous South African captain Du Plessis. He said, “Temba is in a bit of form now, so it’s important to score runs. Earlier, when there was a bit of pressure, it was hard for him to find form.”
Du Plessis then spoke about how is Bavuma in such good form. He said, “The thing is at that time you think the game is moving quicker than it is. But you don’t have time to get in, and with every dot ball, you feel more under pressure. But it’s good to see how he has come back. He played well in the recent ODI series, and what was impressive is the way he scored, he was more aggressive … something you can see he worked on.”
Bavuma has managed to make a half-century and been removed for a golden duck in the two SA20 innings he has played so far. He may get a few more opportunities given that the Sunrisers Eastern Cape are vying to advance to the semifinals of the inaugural SA20 tournament. The third-placed franchise will qualify depending on how other teams perform. While Faf Du Plessis and the Johannesburg Super Kings are in second place with a game remaining and appear to be in good shape to advance to the semifinals.
