Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, has been a crucial member of his team for a number of years. The 28-year-old was named the ICC Cricketer of the Year in 2022 and received the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy. He also repeated as the winner of the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year award.

When renowned Aussie batter Ricky Ponting recently commended him, Babar was ecstatic. Ponting stated in “The ICC Review” that he believes Babar still has some room for progress, which a frightening notion is given what he has accomplished over the last three to four years in almost all three formats. The 28-year-old expressed his opinion that it is always wonderful to receive appreciation from one of the best batters of all time after learning about Ponting’s compliments for him.

“You get confidence when a legendary player gives you a compliment, and you try to be better. When such a huge player passes positive comments, it adds to your confidence, and you have it in your mind that such a huge player is talking well about you. Because these players have been through a similar stage, they know what mindset I have. They have been through similar scenarios and have knowledge of the game,” Babar told the ICC.

Despite this fantastic accomplishment, Ricky Ponting stated that Babar still has a lot to learn in order to develop into a stronger captain. Babar led Pakistan to two consecutive T20 World Cup semi-final appearances. Ponting added that he was confident Babar could progress as a captain with more experience, just as he had with his batting, over time. “I’m sure with a bit more experience under his belt like he’s done with his batting, I’m sure he’ll find the right way to lead and be a very successful captain of Pakistan,” said Ponting.
