Former renowned off-spinner Harbhajan Singh thinks the debate over KL Rahul’s selection for the Indian Test playing XI has gone a bit too far. Several supporters believe Shubman Gill should replace the opener in the third Test against Australia in Indore because the opener has been so unreliable lately. As former cricketer Venkatesh Prasad said in a Twitter thread that Rahul was getting preferential treatment over other deserving batters, the conversation became more heated.
After joining the conversation, cricket expert and former player Aakash Chopra discreetly reprimanded Prasad for singling out Rahul. In a video that was uploaded to his YouTube page, Harbhajan Singh responded to the statements made by the two. He claimed that people who aren’t interested in the progress of Indian cricket find satisfaction in Prasad and Chopra’s discussions of Rahul.
“The debate about whether KL Rahul should play or should be dropped has caught fire on social media and many of our senior former cricketers have joined the debate. Except for those who really follow the game passionately, baaki sab to sirf maje le rahe hain (others are just enjoying the heated banter),” Harbhajan Singh said.
Trolls and other negative comments are directed at KL Rahul, India’s opening batsman. The 30-year-old is getting a lot of flak for not living up to both the expectations of the public and some experts. According to Harbhajan Singh, KL Rahul needs some time alone to reflect on what is going wrong for him. He thinks Rahul’s head will only swell with criticism if cricket fans and experts kept calling him out for his poor play.
“I request you all to understand that regardless of how KL Rahul is playing, he is still an Indian player, our player, and we need to respect that. I think he needs some time to reflect on certain aspects of his game. I can only understand how he must be feeling amidst all this,” Harbhajan Singh said.
