India and Australia will face off in the 2023 World Test Championship final, which will start on June 7, after the Border-Gavaskar Cup has concluded. Nevertheless, as the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) is slated to take place from March 31 to May 28, fans will have to wait to witness the much-anticipated summit battle.
Following a competitive match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka, India secured their place in the WTC championship. The Lankans were one of the teams vying for a berth in the WTC final, but their ambitions were dashed by Kane Williamson’s magnificent century, which helped the Black Caps to an outstanding victory. To advance to the WTC final, Sri Lanka needed to defeat New Zealand in both of their Test matches, but due to their defeat, India advanced and will take on Australia.
Beginning on June 7, the final will be held at The Oval in London. Players that must travel shortly following the IPL to join the team’s training in England have very little time due to their hectic schedules. Brad Hogg, a former Australian spinner, recently expressed his displeasure at having to wait more than three months for fans to watch the WTC final. Also, he predicted that after watching the IPL, spectators would be exhausted and that the excitement for the WTC final would have subsided by that point.
Brad Hogg talked about the IPL and WPL schedules in a video on his YouTube channel. While questioning the scheduling, he also asked why the fans would be excited about the game after watching over 70 matches of the IPL. “What is the ICC doing? The main games have all finished, and now we have got to wait for three months for the WTC Final. That is not good for the fans out there. ICC, wake up, please,” Brad Hogg said on his YouTube channel. “All of the momentum, the excitement by then will have dissipated. By the time the WTC Final comes along after the IPL, everyone has had enough of cricket, and they probably would not be interested in the final,” he added.
